12 Preparing to Help with Japan Relief This Summer

Posted on Jun 15 , 2012 in Blog & Ongoing

A continuation of New Life Christian Church’s commitment to Japan relief, a team of a 12 individuals will be going to Watanoha, Japan, to serve as volunteers at Grace Tohoku Mission.

Located along the Sendai coast, Grace Tohoku Mission is a combined effort of Help Tohoku and Grace City Relief.  The non-profit agency, CRASH, matched our team with this relief group.  We expect to do some manual labor, which may involve removing mud from people’s homes, as well attempting to provide some cheer to tsunami survivors.  Among the team members include a pastor, worship leader, experienced Hawaiian dancer, medical doctor and crafter, dentist and chef, pharmacist, fish seller (the area is full of fish and seafood!), and flower grower.  More importantly, individuals have many spiritual gifts and all are committed to help, no matter how menial the task.

We are still raising funds, so if you feel so moved, please make a check out to New Life Christian Church earmarked for Japan Summer Missions 2012 in the memo line and mail it to 1020 W. Kenneth Rd., Glendale, CA 91202.  (Please do not write an individual’s name on the check.)  All donations are tax deductible.  We are bringing various supplies, including cake mix for their coffee houses; we imagine various transportation costs will accumulate as we move up the coast.

The Summer Japan team worked together to hold a fund-raising somen and soba lunch at church on June 10.

Domo arigato! Thanks to our church family for supporting us through love donations at our luncheon.
